Le Corbusier in his famous phrase “Architecture is the skilful, rigorous and magnificent play of volumes assembled in light” reminded us of the importance of using light as a material, like iron and glass. We are in Monza, in a single-family villa on 4 levels, of which the studio took care of both the interior and exterior. The strong fragmentation of the spaces compared to the large size required an intervention aimed at radically rethinking the living area on the ground floor, making it almost an open space, through the creation of a large living room in direct communication with the service area. The new distribution offers more livable environments illuminated by natural light and wider and deeper optical cones. The articulation of the space is defined in a material key: only parquet in warm shades for the living area, treated in a very classic way; raised iron for the part intended for services, which divides but does not close the space; and marble chips, which smells very much of the 60s and 70s, for the connections, i.e. the entrance and the staircase leading to the other levels. A similar division of spaces is also proposed on the upper floor where the grit of the staircase introduces us to the double suite equipped with wardrobe and private bathroom. In the room we find the parquet which here no longer communicates with the iron but with a bright red resin of the bathrooms. Light is once again the protagonist thanks to the use of glass doors.
